I remember back in the day, when it was a little hectic around the house … trying to keep food on the table, a roof over my family’s head, and the repo man from snatching my car. It seemed that my paycheck was getting smaller and smaller in those days … seemed like I couldn’t keep up any more. I needed to make extra money. So, I was on the Internet lookin’ around to see if there was something I could do from home … you know, maybe make some money on the Internet. I’d seen so many “Make Money from Home on the Internet” infomercials on TV, I figured that there must be something to it, ’cause all those TV commercials cost lots of money to make and yet they’re on all the time. Must be making money for them … otherwise, they couldn’t keep doing those commercials, right?
So, here I am lookin’ around on the Internet, going from one website to another (Jeez, there’s gotta be several hundred thousand of ‘em.), all of them saying the same things: “Make easy online money,” “Make up to $2,500.00 in 24 hrs!” or … how about this one — “Make thousands of dollars a day sitting at your kitchen table … in your underwear!”
Hey, maybe I’m walking around with the words, “I’m dumber than a box of rocks…would you screw me blue?” tattooed on my forehead, because some of the advertising whiz kids must think of me in that way since their claims are so ridiculous that I gotta believe that they think I’ve mutated into some pablum-burpin’ moron to even give that kind of advertising one iota of my attention … much less to actually get sucked into the load of crap these knuckleheads are hawkin’! It’s utter nonsense!
Look, I know for a fact that you definitely can make money on the Internet … a lot of money, if you do it properly. However, there is no such thing as making bundles of cash within 24 hours … or a couple of days, for that matter. Now, I know you’re gonna say, “But I’ve seen the screen shots of daily deposits into these guys’ PayPal accounts, and they’re makin’ truckloads of dough!”
My answer to you is: “You’re right, they are making that kind of money on a daily basis … it’s true. However, here’s the rub.
Do you think these guys woke up early one morning, jammed their toes into the bedpost while rushing to the bathroom to evacuate last nights macaroni and cheese dinner … then suddenly had a miraculous vision born out of the excruciating pain issuing from their now broken foot… showing them how to turn on the computer, click the magic mouse, and cause an elf to appear, dumping mounds of greenbacks on the kitchen floor??? Of course not! That’s not how it’s done!! We all know that … don’t we? We’re not the droolin’ nitwits they think we are…are we?
So, if that’s all a bunch of crap, then how do they really make the money that’s in those screen shots? Well, that, my friend, is the one secret that all marketers fail to tell us. You see, if those guys were to be truthful and tell us what it really takes to get to the top and be able to make thousands of dollars on a daily basis, all on total autopilot — without doin’ any work — they wouldn’t be selling any of their stuff and making that kind of money any more.
Here’s the secret they don’t want us to know, and why they won’t tell us about it ….
Simply put, you’ve got to do a helluva lot of work!! You’ve got to research the masses of people to find out what it is that’s causing them the most pain. Then you’ve got to plan your product around that research — that is, design a “pain-killer.”
Once you figure out what product is gonna work best, you’ve got to develop the product, select a domain name, find a good hosting service, build a website, design a squeeze page, set up an autoresponder, create a series of emails to put into your autoresponder, create a sales page for your site, generate ads, and then set up a testing system for your marketing strategies.
You see, these guys had to do all of these things in the right order, with the right product, aimed at the right audience in order to be able to make the money that they show us in the screen shots of their accounts!
So, if we land on their sales page and find out that we have to spend hundreds of hours and lots of our hard-earned money, and that we’re gonna be doin’ a ton of work, then most of us are gonna leave that sales page and never go back! Why? Because we’re simply gonna be overwhelmed, and we don’t want another full-time job; we’ve already got one! That’s why we’re looking for the easy way — we don’t want to work harder … we want to provide for our families without killin’ ourselves, right?
Think about what I just said. Do you want to spend money on a product that’s going to force you to work harder than you already do? A product that’s going to require you to learn about all the technical stuff that’s needed to design a website, or how to load web pages onto a server? Of course you don’t. Neither do I!
This is why those guys never tell you what it really takes to make money on the Internet … because no one would ever buy their products! That’s why all the ads that I’ve read over the years always say, “Make money from home in as little as 24 hours,” or, “Cash in the easy way,” or, “Make $15,000.00 to $20,000.00 per month,” or … my personal favorite … “Make huge amounts of cash sittin’ around the kitchen in your underwear!”
These guys spend lots of money hiring professional copywriters to create their sales pages that speak about how fast, easy, and simple it is to get the same results the gurus get. Man, I gotta tell you, these advertising pieces are almost hypnotic … they could turn even the stingiest penny pincher into a wallet-emptying zombie!! That’s why the good copywriters get paid the big bucks … they can sell ice to an eskimo!
Look, there’s definitely a way to make loads of money on line. But it does require some work. Actually, there are two very lucrative ways to do it.
1) Sell products through affiliate marketing … which means you’re selling someone else’s products and in some cases getting paid half of the total product price!
2) The best way to make more money is to sell your own products.
We’re gonna focus on selling your own products, and the best way to do it is with Private Label Rights products. PLR is an information product that has already been created and the author is allowing you to put your own name on it and sell it as your own … for a fee, that is. Not to worry, the fees are really small, like … only a few bucks.
Listen, remember I said that it takes work, know-how and money to get into making money online? Well, there are also quite a few shortcuts. These shortcuts will have most of everything done for you. You want to know what I think is the best invention … besides the computer? It’s the autoresponder ! “So,” you’re asking, “what the heck is an auto-whatchamacallit-thingy?” Listen, autoresponders are responsible for making a lot of people filthy stinkin’ rich! You wanna know how?
In a nutshell, it works like this. We’re going to assume that you already have a product on it’s own site, or that you’ve gotten an affiliate product. Don’t worry if you haven’t; you can get some great products and info on how to market them here, within this blog.
Like I said, you’ve got this product, and you want to be able to contact everyone who shows an interest in it. What if you get 7,000 requests for more info? How the heck are ya gonna handle all of that by yourself?
You can’t!!
But that’s what an autoresponder does! It automatically registers every request that comes in … regardless of whether it’s 13 of ‘em or two million! After your visitor is registered, the autoresponder sends them marketing messages relating to the info they originally showed an interest in … along with links to the various products that you market, either on your own sites or through affiliate marketing promotions. And, get this … it’s all done on full autopilot, without any intervention from you other than the original setup! This is awesome!
Here’s how, in a simple, easy-to-follow outline, you can set up your autoresponder:
- What you need to do is prepare 5 to 7 messages about your business and upload them into your autoresponder system.
- Set these messages to be delivered 3 to 4 days apart so that anyone requesting information from you will get all your messages in a sequence over a period of about 3-4 weeks.
- Message #1: Sent Immediately.
In this message, you can thank the person who requested the information from you. Give a little background about yourself and/or your business and encourage your subscriber to contact you if they have questions. Then, leave a link to your product or site so that they can explore the opportunity for themselves.
- Message #2: Sent 3-4 days after #1.
In this message, let your subscriber (now a potential customer) know the benefits of your own products or your affiliate products and how these products are unique from others. Provide links to your products and encourage them to take a look.
- Message #3: Sent 3-4 days after #2.
In this message, brief your subscriber about one of your products … you know, a general overview. Don’t forget to show your subscriber the benefits … NOT the features of the product or service you’re offering.
This is what I mean by benefits:
Listen, what makes the average person want to buy something is … EMOTION!! Never forget that. Your ad copy has to hit every emotional trigger in order to gently guide a potential customer to the final act … Making the Purchase! Remember … people usually buy on emotion, and justify the purchase afterward.
Now, you also have to be unique … unique in your approach. You have to offer something that sets you completely apart from your competitors. You have to present your offer for a product or service in a manner heavily laced with emotional appeal; this makes your offer more attractive than others.
Hopefully, you have additional products or services that compliment the one you are offering. If so, you can make more sales to the same customers, turning them into repeat buyers!
Always sign off by leaving a link to your product, service or website and lead your subscriber to take action … make the purchase!
- Message #4: Sent 3-4 days after #3.
In this message, offer your subscriber a free resource … such as an ebook that gives them extra info that’ll help them accomplish their goals with regard to whatever your product or service promises. Just don’t give away the entire solution — that’s what your product is about! When you give something of value to your subscribers or customers that they didn’t expect, you’re gonna be creating a feeling of sincerity and trust.
And that, my friend, is exactly what you want! Because once you have your subscriber’s trust, you’ve got their wallet! If you do give away an ebook, be sure that you have numerous references to your products, with active links so that you can potentially make more sales — this is great for affiliate links, too! At the end of your message, you know what to do, right? Always sign off by leaving a link to your product, service or website and lead them to take action … make the purchase!
- Message #5: Sent 3-4 days after #4.
In this message, once again, make sure you’ve got some good how-to info, shortcuts or tips that’ll help your subscriber achieve their desired goals. You can then lead them toward making the purchase.
Remember, you’ve got to be giving top notch, quality-drippin’ content that’ll be leaving them wanting more! Only then can you gently guide them to take the action you want. So, can you guess what’s next? That’s right, Sunshine … Always sign off by leaving a link to your product, service or website and lead them to take action … make the purchase!
- Message #6: Sent 2-3 days after #5.
In this message, include a few testimonials from happy customers or members that have been using your products or services. Make it a point that they, too, can obtain the same results as these people.
Be sure to include some short blurbs about the stuff you’ve already shared with them … don’t forget the links!
- Message #7: Sent 3 days after #6.
In this message, ask for your subscriber’s feedback. Mention that you’re doing a survey as to why some people are hesitant to get involved and what you can do to make the experience more appealing to your customers. In other words, you’re going to be asking your subscriber (hopefully, by now, also your customer) what they would like you to provide for them in order to satisfy their needs. Once you have this info, your profits are almost guaranteed to increase dramatically! You wanna know why, don’t ya?
Listen, since you’ll be giving your customers what they want and not what you think they want, the purchase decision is pretty much a no-brainer for them. Also, you’ll get some good feedback as to what other inclusions (or omissions) people think should be incorporated into your program, products or sites. Should similar concerns be raised by future subscribers, you will have ready-made answers or solutions you can present to these prospects.
Now that you have your messages uploaded into your autoresponder system, you want to let a lot of people know about your opportunity. But, before that, you need to give a reason why these people should request more information from you and be in your mailing list — that’s right, we all need a little bribery, right?

The typical affiliate ‘marketer’ has no clue how to create deep, long-lasting relationships with their potential customers. Now I know you’re asking, “What the heck does that have to do with anything? I don’t want to marry ‘em, I just want to make money off of ‘em!”

Now let me be clear, the top professional marketers are what most people in the business would call ‘gurus.’ These guys are not the ones I’m talking about … they know how to do all the right things and make a fortune doin’ them!
I’m specifically referring to the pseudo-marketers … 11 that I’m familiar with through their incessant email promotions with which I’m constantly bombarded. And this is exactly what I’m talkin’ about.
These knuckleheads flood my inbox 2 to 3 times a day … every day … with a load of crap that … and here’s the rub … that they think I’m gonna get so excited about … that I’m gonna wet my pants!
These boobs are cramming sales pitches up my wazoo without even thinking about … what I want !
So, now I have to sort through all the garbage sales pitch laden emails from people who are supposed to know what they’re doin’! You wanna know the kicker? They’re tryin’ to sell us information on how to do internet marketing and make millions! Imagine that! Big Dopes!

Hello {first name_fix}-à (These guys are so lazy … they can’t even change the autoresponder code to at least include your actual first name.)
And this is how it continues:
My good friend so-and-so has cracked the code to amassing a fortune with ClickBank by using his secret formula that’s guaranteed to make you $100,000.00 a month! If you act now, he’s willing to let my email list get it cheaper than anyone else … (That’s mighty nice of him.) For a limited time you’ll be able to grab a copy hot off the press for only $47.00!!!
Now let me ask you, “Who the hell in their right mind is gonna sell us a truly actionable system that really brings in $100,000.00 per month for only $47.00?” “N-O-B-O-D-Y, that’s who!”
These guys must really think we’re a pack of droolin’ idiots!
Here they are, sending hundreds of sales pitch laden emails without ever offering us anything useful. To me, this demonstrates that they’re not willing to do a little give-and-take with us. Unfortunately, all they want to do is take … take our money, that is. This is why they don’t make any money … they just don’t care enough about us to at least address our wants or needs; they just want our money!
Okay. this is how the typical marketing moron goes about getting an affiliate campaign started:
Let’s take Chuck — not his real name — Chuck the schmuck goes out and finds a product … any product that has a high commission … and throws up a link, then sits back and HOPES that someone will click on it and buy the product. Real smart move, Chuck … just go for the highest commission and to hell with giving any thought to what we really want! But that’s exactly what most wannabe marketing misfits do — they just look for the money.
What follows is the process they should be pursuing if they want a remote chance at digging something out of my pockets besides lint!
Listen, when you’re deciding what product to add to your affiliate marketing business, you really shouldn’t be looking at products at all! Instead, you should be looking at people!
Products don’t buy products … people buy products! If you don’t know what the people are having problems with, are interested in, are talking about … then how can you sell something to them?
Once you’ve decided upon a niche, you need to be a part of that niche … even if it’s just briefly. Learn to talk the talk and walk the walk. That’s extremely simple. Just do a search for forums that relate to your niche.
Here’s an example of a forum search: Go to Google and type the following in the search bar: “Model planes forum”. (Remember to include the quotes.) You can use any area of interest you want. Just be sure to follow it with the word forum. Google will return a list of forums related to the area of interest that you want.
Next, go to them and sign up. Read the posts on that forum. See what problems people are complaining about … see what topics are getting a lot of posts … see who the experts are in that niche.
Do the same kind of search for newsletters.
Sign up for a newsletter or two. That will give you a good idea of the level of marketing in that niche and will also let you learn the ‘lingo’ of the niche. See what products they are talking about and trying to sell. This will also give you an idea of with whom to JV when you start your own affiliate program for your own product!
Ask questions on the forum. Get to know some of the people. Build relationships with them. After you’re an accepted member of the forum, ask them if they’d mind doing a survey for you in exchange for a nice gift. That’s when they actually tell you what they want and will buy!
These are YOUR customers and YOUR business!
This philosophy will definitely make you an above average affiliate marketer and increase your affiliate sales. Making a connection with people first will almost assuredly create satisfied customers, buyers singing your praise and repeat buyers … all because you went that extra mile.
The average affiliate marketer looks at products first, sees what product has the highest commission and then just throws up a page with a bunch of links and tries to direct traffic to it. Is it any wonder that they’re not making very much money? Don’t be that marketing moron … you’re better than that!
If you’re just throwing links out there, and maybe a picture now and then, all you’re trying to do is sell, sell, sell! Do you like it when someone tries to push you into buying something? Of course not!
Are you the type that wakes up in the morning and says, “Hey, I feel like going down to my local seedy used car lot and getting my pockets turned inside out by some high-pressure, hair greased back slickster of a salesman?”
You’re not that kind of person, are you? ‘Cause if you are, then you’ve got some issues to work out with a shrink … I’ll make an appointment for you!
Wouldn’t you rather go into a store where the salesman tells you all about a particular item you’re interested in? He gives you a chance to touch it and play with it … to look inside?
The good salesman gives you his opinion on the product and tells you novel ways to use it. He tells you stories about other customers that are using the same product — what they’ve discovered and what they like … and dislike. He tells you the good and the bad about the product and compares it to others.
He finds out what you’re planning to do with the product and gives you great tips on how to do just what you want to do. He builds your trust and builds some rapport with you. He’s just talking and educating you, not selling you!
That salesman is doing exactly what we need to be doing with our affiliate products. He’s telling, not selling. Learn to tell … not sell … and you’ll see a tremendous increase in your affiliate marketing income. Think of times when you, as a customer, were told … not sold … and try to incorporate that style into your affiliate marketing business. You and your affiliate check will be glad you did!

You know, we all start out wanting to make some money on the Internet. We set up our blogs or websites, we do all the right things, we get all the newest gadgets that promise to deliver massive amounts of traffic, and we’ve got everything set up and ready to go … until we realize that we ain’t got no content!!

Resell Rights (RR) can be offered to buyers who are looking for ways to build a brand with a variety of new products. With Resell Rights, the buyer is able to resell the product with their name on it but cannot in any way alter the product. On this front, you make money by selling the same product you purchased and keeping the profit for yourself.
Here is another twist on the scenario. Purchase a Private Label Rights product and rewrite it to create a whole new product. With the new product, offer Resell Rights to it and you’ll find another avenue for free traffic. Your investment in the whole process was a small amount of money for the PLR product and a few hours to rewrite and create the new product.
With a couple of sales, your modest work has paid for itself. By creating your own resell rights products your links stay put even if someone else is selling the product, which drives even more traffic to your site.
Both Private Label Rights and Resell Rights have a place in your online business. When you know the difference between the two, you can effectively use them both to increase your visibility with other online businesses and customer sales.
So stop bangin’ your head against a wall and ’steal’ someone else’s content … legally, that is!

If it shows up on a handful of sites … and I mean only a handful, then it’s lookin’ like it may be a good possibility it’ll do well. Just for the heck of it, do the same thing on eBay. If you find that there’s a hundred bus loads of knuckleheads beatin’ the crap outta your product all over the place, then you better be lookin’ for a different thing to sell!!
Tip #2. Make sure the product owner has the “right kind of bait” included in their affiliate marketers tool box. Here’s the first thing you must do … you’ve gotta crawl into your potential customers minds, and think like they do.
You’ve gotta think about their wants and needs with regard to how the product is gonna address them. You’ve gotta make absolutely sure that all of the marketing materials specifically address the number one most important thing that’s in your customers mind … “WIIFM!” This stands for “what’s in it for me?”
In other words, when you read the salesletter, does it make you see yourself in it? Does it address your wants and needs? Does it gently and persuasively guide you to the realization that you can’t live without the product? Does it hit all of your emotional hot buttons, and end up makin’ you tear off your pockets tryin’ to the get money out fast enough?
Listen up: The salesletter and the supporting materials damn well better have that impact on you ‘cause if they don’t … they won’t have any impact on your customers either, and you’re gonna crash and burn!
Now that you know that the marketing materials should be presented and worded in a way that grabs your customer by the eyeballs, and never lets go … until they buy, that is!
Here’s a list of the most important marketing support and materials your product owner WILL have.
Remember, if the following things are not given to you, then you’d better just take all of your money, throw it in a pile, and burn it!
With that being said, take a look at Tip #3, and try to find most of these resources.
Tip #3. What to look for in your affiliate marketers support system:
• Brandable ebooks to give away or sell for a small fee with your own affiliate ID links to generate leads … and sales.
• Sales letters-the kind that make you want to spend your money … not the dull, boring crap you see all over the internet!
• Templates of the emails to send to your list. Pre-written email sequences are what you want … and they better be written in the same eyeball grabbin’ style that the salesletter is!
• Free promotional tips provided on how to make money, without you spending a fortune tryin’ to figure it out yourself … this is a must!
• Advice on how to use paid advertising to “target market” the product, and other tactics that’ll make you a boatload of money.
• Redirect links through your own website. For example: www.yoursite.com/theaffiliatesite/
• Banners
Tip #4. Good Tracking software.
If you can’t keep track of all the visitors that click on your links, and how many actually buy the product, how on earth are you gonna know if you’re being paid for every sale you generate?
It’s very important to be able to monitor almost everything in your resources section:
- You must be able to track your sales.
- How many visitors came to your site / link and to the merchant site.
- Which page they enter on the merchant site … this is where redirect links are critical!
- You must be able to view your payment history.
- View conversion rates — this is how you can tell how effective the advertising is … by looking at how many people visited your links and how many actually bought the product.
Tip #5. Cookies and IP addresses.
Today it’s common for Internet users to clear their cookies daily or weekly, which in turn wipes your affiliate links off their computers as well! So if you spend money on PPC or any other paid advertising to get a customer, you do not want to see another affiliate get the commission you should have gotten it.
So choose an affiliate program with tracking software that records the IP address of your future customer, because if your potential customer decides to go around you by going directly to your affiliate product without using your link … and believe me they will, or if they wipe out all cookies on their computer, your affiliate product owners tracking system will already have their IP and you’ll still get the credit, whether they use your link or not!
As a final note — always be sure that your affiliate commissions are at minimum, 50% — that’s fifty percent or more of the total purchase price on every order.

Actually there is a reason, and that reason is: All truly successful online money makers have “Funnelvision!”
No, I’m not talkin’ about when we see a beautiful person and the only thing our sleep deprived, red eyed stare sees is that person, and everything else is blurred out … that’s called “Tunnelvision!”
Simply put, you’ve got to model your sales process after the one’s that the successful guys are using!
And that model is … an upside down funnel!
Here, let me give you the long, drawn out version of what I’m yappin’ about ….
Most of us that’re set up for failure, go about tryin’ to make money, do so by getting the customer to buy our product. The problem is … we’ve only got one product to sell! Which means that after you make that one sale to your customer, you’ll never see them again … because you got nothin’ else to sell ‘em! How are you gonna make a life-time customer that’s gonna be giving you residual income time after time out only having one product? You can’t!
Enter the upside down funnel.
In a nutshell, the funnel is a triangle, with the bottom of the triangle representing the base of your sales process — in other words, that is going to be where you cast the widest net to capture EVERYONE that gets within the reach of your diabolical clutches ….
You see, you need to have a product that is cheap (appeals to the masses) and must be top-notch quality information that keeps your customers clamoring for more!
Once your customer is thrilled with what you’ve given them, you can then gently guide them into purchasing your next product, which should be slightly more expensive.
Then, after you’ve completely knocked your customers socks off by delivering still another outstanding product that is superior to all the other “garbage” out there, you’ll have a customer that trusts you, and is even more willing to purchase more products from you (at an even higher price).
You can and should have at minimum, 7-10 levels of products in your “upside down” funnel!
You’re not gonna make a great deal off that first “cheap” (cheap in price…not quality) product. But it’s ok, you need to go slow. You’re gonna get the chance to make a killin’!
Once you build rapport with your new client, you’ll be able to move them “up” your funnel to more expensive products and suck out the big bucks like a Hoover! This process is known in the business as … the “up-sell.”
That is where the upside down funnel comes in.
The Profit Funnel is your pathway to building a relationship with your customer that begins with the purchase of initial goods or services. Once that initial relationship is established, you build on that relationship by evaluating the needs of your client and identify other goods or services that will also benefit your customer.
As you are able to acquaint, interest, and finally sell additional and higher priced items to your customer, your profit margin will increase. The upside down funnel model works very well whether you are working with a brick and mortar business or going strictly with an online presence.
In both instances, the task involves winning the confidence of the prospect, identifying entry level products or services that will be of interest to the prospect, selling the prospect, and then continuing to offer additional products or enhancements that will make life even easier for that former prospect that is now your customer.
Lowest Ticket, lower ticket, and low ticket products
When it comes to winning the confidence of a prospect, nothing speaks louder than a good deal.
It makes ‘em feel good about themselves and about you! Remember … no one wants to end up with a low cost product that ends up being used as a doorstop!
Your job is to match low cost quality product with your prospect. Once you demonstrate how one of your low cost offerings will consistently outperform the competition and save money, you’re gonna have to buy a dump truck in order to make deposits at your bank!
Low-Mid, Mid, and High Mid Ticket
Once you’ve built trust with your customer, you can start “up-selling” them by offering a much more enhanced version of the “low end” product they purchased, with a much higher price.
With your low cost items working just fine for your client, you will easily be able to gain attention for these mid priced offerings.
High Ticket – Extremely High Ticket
The dream of selling high ticket good or services is often the goal of the salesperson. After all, who would not love to be able to sell five thousand dollar items in one afternoon, rather than spend the entire week selling hundred dollar items in order to make the same commission?
Of course, you want to be on the alert for any chance to introduce and sell a high ticket item.
You have a couple of things going for you at this point in your relationship with your client.
First, you’ve proven that your low ticket and mid ticket products…that they already bought and liked, are exactly how you described, thereby creating the number one element that’ll have your customers stickin’ to you like “white on rice!” And that is TRUST! Nothing beats that kind of relationship when it comes to marketing!
Second, you’re not jammin’ everything down their throats at one time! You’re gently guiding your customers to the realization that you have exactly what they need in order to satisfy their wants and desires! You are someone who does the legwork, by identifying their “problem” and then giving them the solution!

“What if I don’t have a website?”
Let me clue you in on a little secret … You don’t need one! All you need is a blog! Once you have your blog set up — which is second grade simple to do (Don’t worry, I’ll show you how with the information at the bottom of this post.) … but once you have it set up you’ll be:
“Stealin’ the eyeballs right outta Google AdSense!” And you’ll be doin’ it on a very large scale, if you’re able to attract more visitors to your website or blog and get them to click on the AdSense ads. Google says we can’t ask the visitor to click on the AdSense ads.
So that forces us to resort to subliminal and hypnotically suggestive tactics … like, tell ‘em if they don’t click on the ad, we’ll whack ‘em over the head with a mallet! Alright, alright, we all know I’m only joking … right?
In fact, Google makes it even harder for us, by requiring that our AdSense ads be marked in some way as advertisements (which is done automatically by Google). Talk about being blatant! However, there are other legitimate ways of getting clicks on your AdSense ads.
Besides the copy and quality content, you can also improve the performance of your AdSense ads by either making them blend with your website or making them stand out. The aim is to make the AdSense ads more attractive … you know, something that’ll reach right out from the computer screen, grab your visitors by the ears and drag ‘em to your ad and make ‘em wanna click on it!
Google also recognizes this need and provides you with customization options for making the ads look the way you want them to. Thank God!
You can make AdSense ad units (An ‘ad unit’ is the JavaScript content box within which your AdSense ads are displayed.) fit into your website by controlling their shape, size, color, and positioning. Let’s have a brief look at … shape and size:
- Shape of Your AdSense Ads: This is one of the most important customization options that you have at your disposal. You can make your selection from a number of ad formats that Google makes available to you. These include skyscrapers, single ad blocks and banners. Just check the suitability of the shape with respect to the location on your web page where you wish to include an AdSense ad unit.
- Size of Your AdSense Ads: Again, you can use AdSense ads of various sizes. The size is important not only for making the ads look suited to your website but also for determining the number of ads that can be displayed on the web page by the Google AdSense program. A large size generally means that more text ads can be displayed within the AdSense ad unit (and hence presents the opportunity for earning more revenue with increased impressions) or that a larger display ad can be generated (if you have specified both display and text ads).
Making the AdSense ads fit into your website is an easy job to do that can really put some serious coinage in your pocket! The four properties that contribute toward making AdSense ads stand out on your website or blog are: Size, shape, color and positioning of the ads. We’ve already talked about shape and size, so lets get into the other two … color and positioning.
Though none of these properties is more important than the others, the color of ads is surely one thing that can help a lot in making the ads blend in with your website, or in making them stand out. Let’s take a closer look at this option.
- Color of Your Ads: This option is fully customizable. You can easily customize the color of your ads using the color palettes provided by Google — and there are more than 200 colors available! You can choose several different colors that are available on the color palette (and 200 colors are enough for any website). You can choose colors for Border, Title, Text and URL.
You can also set a background color for your ads. As you select various options, you can see how the ad unit looks in the preview tool that is shown on the same page as the options, and can use it to make adjustments. The color combinations for the various parts of the ad unit and for the background should match the color combinations used in other portions of your website.
To make an ad unit blend seamlessly with your website, you can use the background color of your web page as both the background color and the border color of the ad unit. If you want to make the ads stand out, you can use contrasting colors for your ads; however, this is generally not preferred unless you have other elements on the website that use similar colors. But … you can use the same background color and text color as in your website menu options. Once you have the right color combination, you can save it as a custom color profile which you can use later.
Similar color customization options are available for the Google AdSense search results page (as in Google AdSense for search, which we’ll get into in a later post).
Now, let’s talk about positions … boy, this topic could get me in trouble with my wife!
- The Positioning of Your Ads: Relative to the rest of the content is important in order to adequately emphasize the ads. However, positioning of the ads is also dependent on the size and shape of the ads. Though shape and size are customizable too, large size ads are generally preferred because they help increase the number of ad impressions you can get.
However, sometimes the structure of your web page might not allow a big size ad. In such a case you would need to strike a balance between the size of your ad and the best positioning for it. A number of website owners use other properties in order to make the big size ads appear smaller. They might use the background color of the web page for the background and border of the AdSense ad thereby making it look smaller than it actually is (besides achieving the blending effect, of course).
Position your AdSense ads in such a way that they “go with the flow” of your website. You can even position a block in the middle of the content in such a way that it adds value to the content. Here’s a good example: You could put an AdSense ad block just after a statement that points to a resource for a particular task … your ad could be the very resource of which you’re speaking! Pretty tricky, huh?
Here’s another good way: Place the ad just above the heading of the article you’re writing or just after the end of the article … as a resource box! Good, yes?

Getting started with Adsense
So, you have decided to go ahead and use Google AdSense for generating revenue from your website. Google AdSense doesn’t need you to sell any products or services. With Google AdSense, you are just selling advertising space on your website.
And the best part is that Google doesn’t discriminate between websites; so, any website owner can enroll with Google AdSense program (as long as you adhere to the Google AdSense program policies, because if you don’t, you’re gonna be banned for life!). Moreover, setting up a Google AdSense account is so easy that you can literally start generating revenue within 15 minutes. How cool is that?
To enroll in the Google AdSense program, go to Google Adsense and click on the ‘Click here to Apply’ button. You will be presented with an enrolment form where you need to fill-in some details like your website information (URL and website language), the Google AdSense products that you wish to use (i.e. AdSense for Content or AdSense for Search), your contact information, your email address and your preferences.
You will also need to select an account type (business/individual) for your AdSense Account and agree to the various policies, terms and conditions of Google AdSense program. The account type will not affect your revenues in any way; it is there just to determine if the payment is to be made in the name of a company or an individual.
TIP: For God’s sakes, you MUST select the boxes that indicate that you’re not willing to have ads on porno sites and click promoting sites…these are good ways to get yourself slapped so silly, you’ll think you were ambushed by a flock of nuns who thought you were the anti-christ!
The email address and the password that you provide during the enrollment process will be required by you for logging into your account later on.
Note: you will be referred to as publisher…that’s pretty neat, huh? Now you’re a publisher! So when you return back to the Google AdSense website, you will be asked to enter your login details as an ‘Existing Publisher’.
Once you are done with setting up your Google Adsense account and once Google has approved your application, you are ready to use Google AdSense for earning revenue from your website. Just login into your account using your email address and password, click ‘AdSense Setup’ in the top menu and select the product type ( ‘AdSense for Content’ or ‘AdSense for Search’).
Remember what I said about selecting the boxes indicating that you’re not going to enter the Devil’s playground! (Porno, and click factories)
You will be presented with various options for customization of your AdSense Ads. Here we will take a look at setting up ‘AdSense for Content’ ONLY…you can do the other options at your leisure, and they’ll be just as easy to do.
The first thing that you need to choose is the Ad type (Ad unit or link unit). Based on the Ad type you choose, you will need to specify the type of ad (text, image, etc for Ad unit) or number of links per link unit too. Google AdSense program allows you to use a maximum of three ad units and 1 link unit per web page (and you must use both, in order to maximize your AdSense revenue).
Now, don’t worry, this is really simple…it just seems a little confusing ‘cause I’m not doin’ a good job of writing it out for ya. You’ll see when you get to the page…a couple of simple clicks and a few pokes at the keyboard, and you’re done! Simple!
The next thing is to choose the Ad layout. There are various layouts available but large rectangle (336×280) and wide skyscraper (160×600) are preferred over others (since they help get more impressions for you and hence help you make more money).
Customizing the colors of various parts of your AdSense ad is the next thing you need to do. Even though customizing colors is optional (as far as the Google AdSense program is concerned), it’s strongly recommended for making your Ads attractive and more effective. Your choice of colors must be governed by the look and feel of your website so that the Ad doesn’t look out of place.
These are the essential customizations that you surely need to do before you can start using Google AdSense Ads on your website.
Besides the essential customizations like selecting the Ad type, Ad layout and colors, there are some other customizations that you can apply to your AdSense account. In fact, some of these can quite easily be treated as essential customizations (based on the context of your website) e.g. ‘filters’ is one such customization that is quite important. Let’s take a look at what these additional customizations are:
Filters: Google allows you to set-up custom ad filters for your website (note that this is in addition to the screening of ad content that Google does by default). By setting up filters you can block competitive Ads and other Ads that you don’t want to display on your website. In other words, you damned sure don’t want your competitors ads showin’ up on your site…do you? Well, Filters are the way to prevent that!
Alternate Ads: This is something that can help you in preventing underutilization of the ad space on your website. Alternate Ads are the Ads that you would want to show up on your website in case sufficient content-relevant Ads are not available.
Listen up-
If you don’t specify alternate Ads and if there are insufficient content-related Ads available, Google AdSense program will serve up a big dose of Public Service Announcement Ads to your website. You know what that means, don’t you? It means that you’re not getting’ paid ! So, be sure to fill in the alternate ads section.
Reporting and performance tracking: You can even customize the reporting and performance tracking options for your AdSense account. One important tool in this regard is the use of channels to study the performance of AdSense Ads from various perspectives.
Once you are done with all the customizations, your AdSense code is generated in the AdSense Code box. You just need to copy this code (which is in the form of a programming script) from the AdSense Code box and paste it in your website as per the guidelines from Google. Since Google allows only three ad units per page, you can add the code at more than one place in your html code.
The next step is to save your web page to the designated web server (as per the instructions from your web hosting service provider). Please note that Google AdSense program does not require you to send over your website’s html code to them; neither does it ask to load it onto their servers or do anything else with it.
The addition of AdSense code to your website’s code is the only thing that you need to do. Separate procedures are available with Google for people who want to use AdSense Ads with their blogs (you can check these on Google’s website for AdSense program).
Now that everything is done, you need to wait for a few hours or less, before Google’s web crawlers find your web page or blog that has AdSense code on it and you start seeing AdSense Ads on your web page or blog.
You might see some Public Service Announcements… pretty quickly, maybe even faster than the blink of an eye! But these will soon get replaced with the AdSense Ads that will earn revenue for you. If the content on your website or blog violates the AdSense program’s policies, remember the beating you’re gonna get from all those nuns! Or worse yet… you might keep seeing those dreaded Public Service Announcements.
And as a last resort Google may ban you for life, depending on the offense. Just follow the rules and you’ll be ok. OK?
If you find objectionable Ads forcing themselves onto your site, and don’t go away even after you’ve applied the appropriate filters, you’ll need to contact Google who will sort out the problems for you, hopefully.
Warning: Never, never, never, ever get it into your head that you’re gonna make some extra money by clicking on the ads on your site or by having one of your “helpful” friends madly clicking on the ads like a crazed typist that’s bangin’ on the click button so fast, that a forest fires worth of smoke starts billowing out of the computer! ‘Cause if you do, you’re gonna get in some serious trouble! It’s called click fraud!

Every niche market on the Internet is highly competitive. If you find that the competition is acting like they’re in a knock-down, drag out brawl, that means that “the fish are bitin!” If you find that you and a couple of other marketers are the only one’s in the particular niche (area of interest) it isn’t competitive.
Therefore it can’t possibly have much of a customer base to sell to. In other words, if you were to try to sell in this kind of market, you may as well roll up your hundred dollar bills and smoke ‘em! Hell, you might as well hire the three stooges to do the marketing for you, while you file bankruptcy!
Maybe you do have a long and impressive list of paid customers. That’s great! It means you have already won several of the affiliate marketing contests and come out on top. The problem is there are always those up and coming marketers who want your customers on their lists.
Your list and your competitor’s lists may well contain many of the same names and email addresses. Just having a list will not be enough to assure you of a victory when selling an affiliate product. You have to design some offensive plays that will assure that your customers buy from you and not from your competitors.
So, you ask, what is it that I can do that will assure that my customers will buy from me? The answer is just one word… unique!
Baloney! that is exactly what every other marketer that ends up wasting their money and time is thinking…unique.
Listen-what makes the average person want to buy something is this: EMOTION!! Never forget that. Your ad copy has to hit every emotional trigger in order to be able to gently guide them to the final act…Make The Purchase!
Now, You also have to be unique…unique in your approach. You have to offer something that sets you completely apart from your competitors. You have to make your offer for a product or service for which you are an affiliate, heavily laced with emotional appeal, and that in turn makes your offer more attractive than others.
You’ve also got to be an honest person. Your honesty has got to show through your marketing. One way is to have established yourself as an expert in the field for which the product or service is being sold. You have to have become not only visible but credible, as well. This visibility and credibility is not easily achieved. It takes a lot of hard work, time and effort.
Visibility and credibility are established by taking such measures as writing and marketing articles and E-Books, posting to blogs and forums, appearing as an expert on teleseminars and webinars, etc. The fact is that when people know you and trust you, they buy from you. They will buy from you even if your competitors are offering a better deal or more incentives…unless they see one of my ads, then you’re done!
People do not like to buy from strangers. The Internet is a big impersonal and even frightening place to many consumers. They want to feel like they know and trust the people that they buy products and services from. The time, effort and energy that you put into becoming visible and credible is the best time, effort and energy investment that you will ever make.

But don’t get stupid here, if you see someone offering a product that is costing you $79.00 and they’re gonna give you 32 bonuses valued at $7,655.50…what’s the first thing that pops into your head? “C’mon, do you think I’m an idiot, this must be some kind of crap!”
So, don’t get ridiculous with the bonuses, it makes you look like some kinda scammer!
